| From Follow Me: A Handbook of Movement Activities for Children by Dr. Marianne Torbert available through playcenter@aol.com Objectives: Social - helping others and being helped; working toward a common goal Emotional - focus off failure;sense of belonging; laughing at self and one's group Cognitive - motor planning; decision making; developing strategies Physical - static balance; force absorption How to Play: Organize players into groups of 4. Place a pair of clean tube socks on the arms of player 1 (should extend up beyond the elbow). Player 2 stands across from player 1and faces her/him. Both players extend their arms and hold hands by the fingertips. Players MUST fold their thumbs inward so they are not bent backward in the game. Players 3 and 4 stand opposite each other and to the sides of players 1 and 2. Players 3 and 4 grab hold of the sock just above the elbow on players 1. When the leader signals players 3 and 4 reverse the socks off of player 1 and onto the arms of player 2. Player 1 rotates out so that now player 1 and 4 (could be player 3) reverse the socks from player 2 onto player 3. This continues in order until a 1 minute time limit is up. Teams score 1 point for every successful switch. Players cannot switch the socks to a players for the second time unless all players have had the socks on once and so on. DO NOT coach an order for the players to pass. Let the players develop their own passing order. Play a second round challenging each team to switch more than the first round. DO NOT allow players to wear wrist watches, bracelets or rings. |
